About me
I’m Anya Alvarez and I’m here to help you Swing with Purpose.
My journey in golf started when I was 4 years-old on the course in Gallup, New Mexico where my dad was a Head Pro. Ever since, the love for the sport has been part of my core.
After playing collegiate golf at the University of Washington, I turned professional, spending two years on the Epson tour and one year on the LPGA. My most proud achievements are playing in two U.S. Opens and finishing T-3 at the New Zealand Open in 2014, a sanctioned European Tour event during my professional playing career.
As a golf instructor in New York City on the Upper East Side, I now get the pleasure of sharing what I have learned along the way from some of the top instructors, combined with my personal experiences as a player. My teaching style focuses on the fundamentals, working within your physical limitations, and incorporating fitness and mobility into your lesson to help you reach your goals. My students range from juniors, women, and golfers at all stages of their game. Most importantly, my goal is that you find joy in this beautiful and wonderful sport.
Outside of teaching, I have worked with the LPGA to help promote women’s golf as the host of their podcast Talk Birdie to Me, and have also written for the Golfer’s Journal, ESPN, the Guardian, Teen Vogue, and the BBC with a focus on women’s golf and women’s sports.
